The primary objective of our university is to bring out the virtuous monks, well-versed in Buddhist Scriptures and foreign languages for propagation and promotion of Buddha Sasana. Producing monks who follow the Vinaya strictly and undertakes missionary works in foreign countries
With such perspective, the university will encourage the scholars to become well versed in Buddhist scriptures and experience the profundity of Dhamma and Vinaya through spiritual practice.
Pre-diploma course ( 18 months course ) In view of increasing interest in the academic study of Buddhism, the Mahāvihāra Dhamma-Vinaya University is offering Pre-diploma course that focus on the English related to Pitaka and English language proficiency which is Medium of Instruction at the diploma class and higher classes.

Failed examinations may be repeated once. Assessment of the student’s performance is based on a maximum of 100 points per course, comprised of 35 points for Internal Marks (assignments, presentations and tutorial etc.), 15 points for Teacher’s Assessment and 50 points for the end-of-term Final Examinations. The minimum passing mark for each course is a score of 50.

The Research Postgraduate programme leading to the award of M.A and PhD degrees aims to broaden and deepen students’ knowledge in Buddhist Studies . Candidates for the M.A programme are required to follow an approved course of study under structured supervision including coursework. The normal period of study is 3 years for full-time students . Candidates for the Ph.D programme are required to follow an approved course of study (which may include coursework) and research under supervision, the period of completion can be 3 years or 4 years for full-time students.
